Second step of the podium in class AM and tenth position overall GT4 for the couple Beppe Ghezzi and Alessandro Giovanelli in the “two hours” on the Ardennes circuit of Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.
This was the second endurance race of the GT4 European Series, together with the Championship British GT.
After the free practice, in which the drivers have become familiar with the difficult circuit, a shower of rain wets half circuit and complicates the tires choice before the “green light”.
Conservative choice for the race and 11° position in class GT, 19° row in the starting grid with 58 cars.
Start the race at 12:35 o’clock on Saturday and against all forecast at Spa it doesn’t rain during the race so will never enter the safety car and the race is held on a regular basis.
At the start Ghezzi who, after taking a good rhythm, gains the 4th place and then the 3rd place in AM class, doing the first of two mandatory pit stop just before half race and leaving the 997 GT4 to Giovanelli.
Good work of the team executing the refueling, driver change, and change tires.
Giovanelli keeps the 3rd position and the team’s strategy is to move as much as possible the mandatory stop.
Giovanelli falls on expiry to complete his stop, get out and take the checkered flag one lap later. With a technical retreat for the BMW, the team earning the second step of the podium.
Great celebration on the podium, a result that allows to the couple Ghezzi / Giovanelli to gain the second position in the AM class.
Next round of the GT4 Series is on the Magyar circuit of Hungaroring on September 25, this time together with the German DTM.
