The GT4 Series this week made a stop in Belgium on the SPA-Francorchamps circuit and Autorlando reached us as the record holder of the AM classification with the Ghezzi-Giovanelli couple and the record holder of the team classification.
Cerati, Fondi, Ghezzi and Giovanelli had to fight a lot with all the 50 cars, and members of the AM class had risen to 14 participants. On Friday the two free practice sessions were scheduled with clear weather and the car was overall well set up and stable despite the increase in kilos (+55) predicted by the Balance of Performance announced a week before the event.
Qualifying on Saturday, qualifying 1 sees Ghezzi in a 3rd place class, while Cerati is 12th. Qualifying 2 sees Giovanelli 7th and Fondi that finds only a 13th place.
All the two races scheduled on Sunday, the guys on the team work on the cars. Race 1 sees Ghezzi start well but on the first lap on the descent that leads to the famous curve “Eau-Rouge” Ghezzi was hit in the rear left tyre that explodes and forces him to a very slow lap before being able to return to the box for tyre change. Race compromised and Giovanelli arrive on the checkered flag on 10th position, behind the teammates Cerati-Fondi who manage to hold some direct opponent in the standings gaining 2 points.
In race two, therefore, we expect a ransom but unfortunately was not so because Giovanelli, the first to start in race 2, on the third lap has a contact with the Cayman with which he was in a brawl, radiator broken and game over. Fondi-Cerati is the honor of the team and they replicate the good race but they gain only 1 point this time.
Ghezzi: “Difficult race, Spa is adrenaline and exciting and we better next races”.
Cerati e Fondi: “Spa doesn’t forgive, we kept ourselves out of trouble and we are satisfied, even if to learn it well we would have to do a 24 hours!”
The team and drivers at this point will have to obtain important points for the championship standings in the last two events of September: Hungaroring on 2 September and Nurburgring on 16 September.
This weekend Nervi Alessandro will be back on track for the Supercup Trophy while the Rally GT returns to show off its majesty in the Milan Expo area.
