It was an exciting weekend for the Autorlando-Sport team that just took place at Mugello, where the last Round of the Italian GT Endurance Championship was scheduled. Ghezzi-Chiesa (# 276) in crew with Fabio Babini presented themselves as leader of the classification and shared the box with the twin (# 275) that came back after the absence of Vallelunga led by Cerati-Fondi-Demarchi.
Friday’s free practice reveals a little the values in play but basically serve to define and refine the set-ups that are not touched up in the free practice on Saturday morning despite the wet asphalt given that forecasts for the afternoon qualifying and Sunday’s race it would not have expected rain. The qualifying on Saturday confirm the decision of the crew of the # 276 that wins the pole of front class by detaching of three seconds the car “twin” in second position, the Cayman of Ebimotors, while the # 275 closes seventh putting in evidence the good adaptation and foot of Luca Demarchi to the absolute debut with the car and the team and solid performances of Cerati and Fondi, constant and with little difference between them times.
The highlight of the weekend, however, was seen on Sunday where the three-hour race would have put all the cars to the test and decided the fate of GT3 and GT4 championships. The race started at 2.45 pm Chiesa completes him stint in an excellent way, leaving the car to Ghezzi in first class position thanks also to the team’s excellent work at the pit stop. The safety car after the first stop allows the # 276 to breathe and the # 275 driven by Fondi to return to the group while occupying the 6th position. At the second pit stop he is still very smooth with Demarchi and Babini taking the steering-wheel from their respective mates. Another safety car interrupts the regular course of the race and the situation created on the track holds the result of the championship poised up to a few laps from the end because “in the rear” the crews of BMW # 207, Maserati # 210, # 208 Nova Race that together with the # 275 alternate in positions. At the finish, however, Babini-Chiesa-Ghezzi’s race victory also awards the title because the direct opponents of the Nova Race, which for the occasion lined up the Mercedes AMG GT4 and no longer the Ginetta, finishs 4th and ends up with the game of waste in the standings for only 3 points.
The celebrations for the team then begin, crowning all the efforts of a year that began with the second place in the Monza opening race, continued with the fourth place in Misano and the second place in Vallelunga. Great work done by the boys of Orlando Redolfi who allowed all supporters and pilots to leave the racetrack with a smile on their face but with their heads already turned in two weeks when we will have to try to win the Sprint title.
