Press release 16/2022 04.07.2022
At the same time as the ‘Le Mans Classic’, the 71st edition of the prestigious ‘TRENTO-BONDONE’ hillclimb race also came to an end, from which we ‘returned to the pits’ fully satisfied with how the race weekend went.
This year Autorlando presents itself in Trento with no less than six cars, including a non-sanctioned opener, driven by Fabio Babini and Simona Savastano; a historic one, Orlando’s 904 driven by Marco Cristoforetti; three Gran Turismo, including a 991 CUP driven by Giuseppe Ghezzi and two 997 GT4s driven by Thomas Pichler and Maurizio Fondi; and a 911 GR3 led by Andrea Rizzi.
This year, incessant rain characterised the race, so the drivers had to get very familiar with the track throughout practice, in order to be able to perform to their full potential during the race.
At the end of the weekend, the classification reads important positions for our drivers, who manage, despite the competitiveness and the wet race, to keep the name of Autorlando high.
Giuseppe Ghezzi managed to rank 2nd in his category, the GT-GTSCUP, and 10th in the general classification; Thomas Pichler ranked 17th in the general classification and 1st in his category, the GT-GTS; Maurizio Fondi, instead, ranked 94th in the general classification and 3rd in the GT-GTS class.
Cristoforetti, unfortunately, fell victim to car problems after Saturday’s free practice and was thus unable to take part in Sunday’s race. A great pity, given the pace he was keeping on the practice day.
Rizzi, too, unfortunately could not make it to the end of the race due to a puncture.
Below are the comments of our pilots:
Pichler: “Trento very good organisation, it was my first experience with a GT uphill obviously and I must say that I immediately got familiar with the 997 that I use in the Italian GT Championship, so I am happy with first place in GTs.”
Ghezzi: “Very happy with the result, considering that I have only been using the Porsce Cup since this year, and as always Orlando and his guys did a great job on the uphill set-up. I’m sure I have room for improvement.”
Rizzi:” Everything was good, except in the race I touched and punctured a tyre and couldn’t make it to the finish.”
Huge congratulations therefore to the winners, drivers and organisers, all protagonists of an ever-growing and truly enthralling event that provides great entertainment for all fans and spectators.
